I usually begin explaining my work with " If someone like yourself can imagine what music would look like on canvas, you could understand where my work is coming from with out seeing it. "
The First Series
I have always been passionate/obsessed with the idea of connectivity. It began as a curiosity and then later grew to experimentation. There seems to be an apparent and complex design, a pattern, in these connecting strains of inspiration. My realization started as I became inspired by the phenomenal artwork of Gustav Klimt, Pierre Renoir, Claude Monet, and Edgar Degas. I began to see similarities in my artwork as well as in others. Once I confirmed this rough idea, I developed and broadened this formula by connecting other forms of artwork together. I would walk across the streets of New York City and pass an extraordinary piece of architecture. Something that would blow me away and in that moment I was affected. A sensation of inspiration would breathe in me. I realized that this piece of art, this new piece of information, would help shape my form of creativity. It has no choice but to. This sparked many late night discussions with a good friend of mine, a talented musician, about the connection between paint and music. At the time, I was dabbling in oil on canvas and the use of gravity. As I took in new experiences through the art of music, I asked myself what would sound look like when I put it on a canvas. This would include the addition of form, color, and speed. And so I began this series. But as I continue on the beautiful, intricate path of self discovery, I realize its the individuals sound that interests me more.
The Second series
Is an inspired tangent from my first series... still connected to the sounds of music and it's movements. However, this one is focused soley on the rhythm, accuracy, and fluidity of my brush stroke. Searching for the perfect combinations of color and timing to create a kinetic movement (energy) within the space of the canvas. As I experiment more in this series, I have come to find that there is a connection to this form and to the form of nature. Undeniable and overwhelmingly so.
