Miami born painter, Kelo, is more then just your typical artist. Raised in Hollywood with a natural hand for art and heavily influenced by graffiti, Kelo is finding a way to carve his own niche into the art world. When his fingertips are encrusted in several layers of a variety of different colored paints, you won’t need to examine his art too hard to recognize the depth of his talents. Often serving as a self therapeutic release, Kelo’s works double not only as a way to express himself to others as the down to earth, artistic provocateur that he is, but also as a way to communicate with himself. In his compositions, Kelo admires most a moment’s ability to be captured and immortalized on canvas. What was a fleeting emotion or thought can be expressed visually into a statement that will last forever. His take on the abstract and complex expressionism has defined him locally, noting such distinctive features as his recognizable calligraphic lettering, his infinite repetition and his vivid use of color, based on a theory which he developed over time. As a graffiti artist Kelo admits there came with it inherit ups and downs. His downs have yet to hinder him as his ups have included live paintings and bookings at Miami hotspots like Jazid, Eve, Jake’s in Hallandale, The MultiUniversal art show at Miami’s famed Art Basel and We Merge magazine events which have traveled him from the sunny shores of South Beach, all the way up to Gainesville, Fl. Ever evolving, artistically organic and founded in emotion, Kelo has transcended the confines of his artistic genre. For more information, you can see Kelo’s artwork and blog at www.kelo.biz.
